Clarendon Type Specimen
For this project, I developed a type specimen centered on Clarendon, a bold slab-serif typeface originally designed in 1845. The objective was to create a cohesive visual system that highlighted Clarendon’s strong structure, bracketed serifs, and distinctive balance between industrial weight and refined detail.
Through scale variation, grid-based layout, and intentional use of negative space, I emphasized the typeface’s versatility across display and body applications. The composition showcases Clarendon’s commanding presence in headlines while demonstrating its readability and rhythm in smaller settings.
This project reflects my ability to analyze typographic history, build hierarchy through scale and spacing, and design a structured yet expressive layout that allows the typeface’s personality to lead.
