Typographic Form Exploration Letterform “9”

For this project, I was assigned the numeral 9 and tasked with reinterpreting it through the lens of a specific designer. I drew inspiration from Massimo Vignelli’s modernist philosophy—clarity, structure, and bold geometric form.

Using simplified shapes, a grid-based composition, and a restrained but high-contrast color palette, I constructed the “9” through overlapping modular forms and solid color blocks. The use of circles and clean curves references Vignelli’s systematic approach to design, while the bold primary and secondary colors nod to modernist graphic traditions.

This project demonstrates my ability to translate a designer’s visual language into a contemporary composition, balancing structure, hierarchy, and expressive form within a minimal framework.
